Two Years On

On March 16, 2013, Indie+ hosted a podcast discussion of various role playing game design contests and challenges including Game Chef, the 24 Hour RPG, and RPG Solitaire Challenge.  (For fun, go read this thread that lists the history of the Game Chef competition back in 2007!)

As a follow-up, I posted on Google+ to get links to updates of Solitaire games. The links are now live at the "Games" page here:

You can watch and listen to the podcast about the contests on Youtube here:

Solitaire Summer Award Posts

Note: It was our plan to have further posts by the judges, but time and commitments intervened. We hope you'll brows all the games, and also enjoy the summaries of the games that won the various challenges here:

RPG Solitaire Challenge Awards

We're going to be posting the award posts for the Solitaire winners at various forums over the summer (probably from summer solstice through the fall equinox). There is a post at Story Games and RPG Crossroads where we'll post links to new posts.

The award posts are were intended to be where the judges talk about the games they chose as category favorites. The aim is was to spread the word about them to the general public, and encourage the designers in continuing to work on the games or to publicize them for play.

We realized after running the contest that we had bitten off a bit more than we could chew, so we hope the feedback and information about the games here at the site will help people enjoy them over time.

Congrats to all the winners, and we hope that everyone who entered is still moving forward with their game!

Nearing the End

As of February 10, we have most of the feedback completed. Posting is underway, and all will be completed by tonight. To give us a chance to get it sorted out and shared, it will be posted through February 11.

The Awards will be posted after February 11, 2011, when all have been gathered.

Thanks to everyone for their participation and patience! Congratulations to everyone who sent in a game, they're a treat to dig into, and it's a pleasure to have been part of your development process.

RPG Solitaire Entry Feedback

We've begun posting the feedback on RPG Solitaire entries:

Each Judge will talk about the strengths, weaknesses, share what parts of each game excite the most interest and give some ideas and suggestions for further development of the game. 33 game entries will receive nearly twice that many reviews.

Feedback will be posted from February 1 through February 10, 2011. On February 10, Category Favorites and other awards will be announced.

Great thanks to all the participants and the judges!

Challenge Judging Extension

Due to the amazing plethora of games submitted to the RPG Solitaire Challenge, we are extending the schedule for sharing the feedback and awards from the Judges. We received twice the number we'd expected to read!

In order to have adequate time to provide feedback on all of the games, the final judging deadline will be February 10, 2010. However, we will begin posting feedback on games on February 1, and will post them in batches until all are completed by February 10, 2010.

Winning games will be announced on February 10. Judges will post their Favorite for each Challenge that they put forward. There will be an overall Favorite. The Awards, a post by the Judges about the winning games, will be written during February and the first part of March.

Thank you again to everyone who participated. We are working hard on the feedback, and are enjoying getting to read and play the games!

Contest Closed

As of 1/11/11 (Jan 11, 2011), 11pm EST, the contest is closed.

It's the eleventh hour, and unlike in most adventures, that means things have come to an end. We've received about 30 entries for the contest. Just about twice what I'd anticipated, and about the maximum of what we'd like to handle. The games will be posted here and distributed to the judges over the next few days. There is also a forum for discussion of issue relating to solitary role playing games over at the Crosswords forum.

The feedback and awards will be announced and posted here on February 1, 2011.

Congratulations to everyone who worked on a game in this contest! It has been a real treat to see your ideas form on blogs and forums. And it's also been a lovely surprise to see how many people surfaced from all walks with entries.

A special congratulations to everyone who was able to meet the deadline! But the real work here is in creating the game. Finding inspiration, following your ideas, and bringing your work to a state that satisfies you is the most important matter here.

There are many entries that did not fit the criteria, or that may be completed later. And many of the entries may continue in development beyond this contest. We will continue to update this site and post links to all these games, after the game contest is completed in full.

Thank you so much, to everyone who have participated. I salute your efforts and creativity. Thank you for making this a very fruitful enterprise indeed!
